Serenity Power Earns $100K at Elevate Festival for Clean Energy Innovation

Calgary-based clean energy startup Serenity Power has won $100,000 from angel investors via The Firehood’s Elevate Women+ Pitch Prize. This victory elevates the company’s profile in Canada’s climate tech space.

Serenity Power was created by graduates of the University of Toronto’s engineering programs. Their main technology is a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) platform that uses electrochemical reactions rather than combustion to turn fuels (like diesel or natural gas) into electricity. This will result in far fewer greenhouse gas emissions in the hardest sectors to decarbonize.

The company’s technology targets heavy-emitting industries, including mining, oil and gas, remote power utilities, and data centers, and sectors that account for a significant share of global carbon output. According to the International Energy Agency, industrial and power generation activities together contribute nearly 43.8 of global CO₂ emissions, making innovation in these areas critical to meeting international climate goals.

Said that heavy industry and electricity production together account for the lion’s share of emissions so innovation in those areas matters.

This successful funding gives more momentum to Serenity Power. In July 2025, the startup also won $100,000 in the Black Entrepreneur Investment Prize at Montréal’s Startupfest. An article in regional media reported that prior to Elevate Festival, Serenity was one of 40 women-led companies selected into a five-week virtual incubator to build their business and competition pitch for investors, with 12 finalists pitching live at the event.

Elevate Festival is in its seventh year of providing programming to uplift and showcase underrepresented founders, which includes their Women+ Entrepreneur Incubator, where eligible start-ups compete for the chance to win an award of $100,000.

The festival brings together founders, investors, policymakers, and industry thought leaders to showcase innovation from across Canada.
